Prashna — when the question is the chart

Time-based Prashna, what makes a question valid, and the house groups used to judge each category.

Prashna casts a chart for the moment a question is asked. No birth details. The premise is that a question genuinely weighing on someone arises at a moment that reflects its answer.

What makes a question valid

Prashna is strict about this, and ignoring it is why Prashna gets a reputation for unreliability.

  • It must be genuine. A test question has no chart. "Let me check if this works" does not produce a readable moment.
  • It must matter now. Idle curiosity about something five years away does not qualify.
  • It must be one question. "Will I get the job and should I move cities" is two charts.
  • It must be answerable. "Will I be happy" has no house group. "Will this job offer come through by March" does.
  • Once only. Asking again because you disliked the answer invalidates the second chart.

Judging by house group

Each category of question has houses that must be supported:

  • Career — 2, 6, 10, 11. The 10th for the role, the 6th for the service, the 2nd and 11th for what it pays.
  • Marriage — 2, 7, 11. The 7th for the partner, the 2nd for the family formed, the 11th for the fulfilment of the desire.
  • Property — 4, 11, 12. The 4th for the asset, the 11th for the gain, the 12th for the expenditure — which is why the 12th here is not negative.
  • Business and finance — 2, 6, 10, 11.
  • Travel — 3, 9, 12. The 3rd for short journeys, the 9th for long ones, the 12th for going abroad.

The negating house is the 12th from the house you want. For marriage, the 6th (12th from the 7th) denies it. A sublord signifying both support and denial is the honest "unclear" — and saying so is better practice than forcing a verdict.

Prashna and KP together

Modern practice usually runs both: time-based Prashna for the overall picture, and KP horary with a number when the querent can supply one. Agreement between the two is a strong signal. Disagreement means the question needs the natal chart, not another Prashna.
