About the Panchang
The panchang day begins at local sunrise, and Rahu Kaal and the other windows are fractions of the local daytime. Sunrise in Mumbai is about twenty minutes later than in Kolkata, so the windows move with it. Tithi and nakshatra end at the same instant everywhere, but the clock time you see is your city’s.
The time between sunrise and sunset is divided into eight equal parts. Rahu Kaal is one of them, fixed by the weekday: the eighth part on Sunday, the second on Monday, the seventh on Tuesday, the fifth on Wednesday, the sixth on Thursday, the fourth on Friday and the third on Saturday.
Counting from your birth nakshatra to the day’s nakshatra gives one of nine taras. Sampat, Kshema, Sadhaka, Mitra and Param Mitra are supportive; Vipat, Pratyari and Vadha are the days to keep plans modest.
